What’s with all the fad diets?
So today at work I spoke to a colleague who had been fasting for 7 days and only having water mixed with maple syrup and lemon juice or something. WTF? People’s credulity never fails to amaze me. Look the hard fact is that if you want to loose weight and keep it off then you need to start eating less, eating more healthily and taking excercise. A lot of diets are just going to mess you up if you try them so ask your doctor and he’ll tell you the same things - eat more fruit and veg, do more excercise, eat less crap. It’s that simple folks!
Ah, that’s a good point - the reason is simple though. A diet that works (or a gym program that works, etc) isn’t built on a gimmick, and therefore, it wouldn’t sell very well in an infomercial. For all the clamor that people want to hear ‘the truth’, the actual truth is that they only buy things that have been hyped.
For example, I lost ridiculous amount of weight by just eating ‘clean’ food (lean meat, vegs, fruits) - never felt hungry, never felt like I sacrificed anything. It was easy and healthy, and my motivation was joining KM
But could I go write a book about it that sells ? Nope. Instead, people prefer to hear exotic solutions about problem they don’t understand, because they are too lazy to educate themselves and actually understand it.
Just check out personal trainers at the gym - I’ve seen a lot give out extremely complex exercises to complete beginners (one legged russian twist on top a balance board lol) - when in fact beginners needs simple exercises like bench and squat. The reason is that if you go to a beginner and tell him/her ‘hey, follow a proven program like rippetoes, or a decent 5×5′ - well, you won’t get many customers.
Not to be the lone dissenter here but…… fasting is actually good for you on a periodic basis. Many paleo proponents, that is eating meat, vegitables, nuts, seeds etc, recommend some sort of fast on a periodic basis. I may self try to fast every other week for close to 24 hours. I do this to help flush my system of toxins, help regulate insulin levels and help to promote metabolic efficiency.
Some studys have shown that periodic fasting or a pewriod of reduced caloric intake actually helps your body stay healthier.
Fasting for 7 days I can understand for spiritual reasons but for weight loss is just insane. Looking at what the guy was consuming it seems he was doing one of those detox fasts, which while effective, is worthless if he goes right back to eating a bunch of processed crap.
