Training for P3

I’ve been back at training fairly reguarly this month trying to get ready for the next grading which is at the end of March when I’ll be going for P3. The hardest techniques I’m finding are the ground fighting defences against headlocks of which there are three variations. We also have to use sticks to attack and defend attacks which is quite fun although a guy got his hand hit pretty badly in thursday’s class. Other stuff to be covered at kick defences, wrist releases and defences against bear hugs. Overall I’m probably less confident atm than I was before P2 but hopefully a few more weeks of training should iron out the kinks.

What’s with all the fad diets?

So today at work I spoke to a colleague who had been fasting for 7 days and only having water mixed with maple syrup and lemon juice or something. WTF? People’s credulity never fails to amaze me. Look the hard fact is that if you want to loose weight and keep it off then you need to start eating less, eating more healthily and taking excercise. A lot of diets are just going to mess you up if you try them so ask your doctor and he’ll tell you the same things - eat more fruit and veg, do more excercise, eat less crap. It’s that simple folks!

Back in the krav groove

So last month I got back from New York and managed to make it to class a few times but not as much as I’d have liked. This month I’m going to be going at least twice a week in preparation for the next grading where I’ll be going for P3. I’ve covered most of the material on the syllabus which includes techniques such as releases from bear hugs, more chokes on the ground and so on. One area I haven’t covered yet is the use of sticks for attacking and defending which should be fun. I understand from research that use of small sticks was an integral part of ‘kapap’ training which predates krav maga in the Israeli systems. I’ve also got myself a proper bench and weights for at home as I’m frankly sick of the gym so February is going to be a great month for me! I’ve also ordered some boxing gloves and a mouth guard from the new krav maga shop that the Institute have opened. This means I can start doing more sparring at class which will be cool.

In the next couple of posts I’m going to put up a lot of the video podcasts that have been issued in the past in case you haven’t seen them and talk through some of the issues in them.
